Katy Perry – Here and NOW

Katy Perry Year in Review 2012

Between a nasty divorce, a new documentary, and a rise in fame beyond compare, the pop superstar, Katy Perry, had a year worth intrigue; the likes of which shouldn’t be alien to the lovely gal who broke through in 2008 with the controversial “I Kissed A Girl.” Since then, the singer’s been at the top of almost every chart to do with pop and shows no sign of slowing down.

Katy Perry 2012 – Let’s sum it all up, shall we?

In the 2011 American Music Awards Katy Perry was nominated for Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist, Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist, and Artist of the Year, but ended up winning a special award for the unique honor of having five singles at No. 1 off of one album (Teenager Dream). She got recognition for the same feat again in 2012 and received the Billboard Spotlight Award, along with winning in six more categories on the Billboard year-end chart.

Katy Perry Rise to Fame

Katy Perry’s hit singles (of which the singer has quite a lot of) have and continue to win her awards in all corners of the world. In a particularly impressive feat, she took home three at the last MTV Music Video Awards: Video of the Year with “Firework”, Best Collaboration and Best Special Effects with “E.T.” (ft. Kanye West).

However, Katy Perry’s life hasn’t been all fine and dandy. On December 30th, 2011 Russell Brand filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. After a whirlwind romance the two had married on October 23rd, 2010, with a lavish and grandiose ceremony in India.

They had been battling months of negative rumors. Not only were they spotted in several places with seemingly purposefully removed wedding bands; but it was reported that right before Christmas Katy Perry and Russell Brand got into a disastrous fight that ended in Katy Perry redirecting her private jet’s course from London to Hawaii, favoring her friends over her husband for the holiday season.

Still, even with all the gossip about a rocky relationship, it was a surprise when they finally filed for divorce. Earlier in December Brand said on Ellen,”I am really happily married…. I’m married to Katy Perry. Perpetually, until death do us part was the pledge. I’m still alive.” He gushed about their marriage on a few other shows as well, and mushy tweets between the two were in no shortage.

Yet, that didn’t change the fact that the two were obviously not meant to be. In January, moving vans took away the stand-up comedian’s belongings, leaving the $6.5 million property him and Perry had purchased together behind, along with whatever his wedding ring had meant to him.

When talking about how her relationship is affecting her music in an interview, Katy Perry claimed that her new music is going to be dark, really really dark, dark intensified by and expletive dark. She’s about as subtle as a train running through a living room with the implications about her recent break with Brand and what it’s doing to her sound.

Katy Perry’s album “Teenage Dream” was re-released under the title “Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection” on March 26th, 2012. Led by the new single “Part of Me,” it held up to her proclamation of showing a less than bubbly, sunny, or California-ey, side of herself, with lyrics more or less completely directed towards her ex.
Katy Perry

(we will never get over how adorable she is though)

We don’t have all the juicy details about what happened yet, but this might all change on July 5th. Katy Perry’s gearing up for the release of her 3D documentary “Part of Me” and the Katy Perry official website claims it to be a “backstage pass, front row seat, and intimate look” at the young singer’s life journey. It’s also bound to be an inspirational watch, especially with a tagline of “Be yourself and you can be anything,” and chronicles the transformation from gospel-singing Katy Hudson to today’s world renowned Katy Perry.

You can watch the trailer here.

She’s dedicated the documentary to her loyal fans and followers, claiming that she’s never been this revealing about her strange and exciting life…. Also we get to see her without makeup (the girl is probably still gorgeous though!). Apparently, Russel Brand’s a bit nervous about all this openness though, requesting that any of the footage shot while they were married be deleted. He was denied.

Without a doubt, Katy Perry has faced an eventful year, good and bad. What with new fame and old stories both coming to light, heartbreak in the rear, it’s no mere prediction that more is to come. Sure, it’ll be a mixed blessing for this lovely Californian girl, but let’s hope she continues to shine the next year and many years after that.

We love you Katy Perry! Good luck!

From the Billboard 200 album chart dated Sept. 11, 2010, it has sold over 1.7 million copies.

Katy Perry’s latest single from the album is ‘Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),’ which comes on the heels of the last #1 hits ‘California Gurls,’ ‘Teenage Dream’ and ‘Firework.’ The only single that didn’t make it to No. 1 on this chart was ‘E.T.,’ which was lodged at No. 2 for four weeks and was unable to pass Adele‘s ‘Rolling in the Deep.’

Michael Jackson achieved the honor from his album “Bad” over nine months and two weeks. Perry’s five toppers from “Dream” have spanned one year, two months and one week, dating to the first week at No. 1 for “Gurls” on the Hot 100 dated June 19, 2010. Katy Perry’s newest Hot 100 is dated Aug. 27, 2011.

Michael Jackson may have been the quickest to earn this honor, but Katy Perry has spent more time on the Hot 100. Michael Jackson’s five No. 1s from “Bad” totaled a combined seven weeks in charge. With the first week on top for “Friday,” Perry is up to 18 total weeks at No. 1 with her No. 1s from “Dream.”

Katy Perry has risen to success quickly with her catchy lyrics, great song writing ability, sexy style, and incredible uniqueness!

Teenage Dream is another great album in the Katy Perry discography.

Katy Perry Biography

Katy Perry Biography

Raised by parents whom were two devoted pastors, Katy Perry grew up with a very religious background. Perry was born on October 25, 1984 and her parents lead her into singing gospel music. She sang in churches and local restaurants. With strict parents, she was banned from what they called “secular music,” by her mother. She was then inspired by the voice of Freddy Mercury, at a slumber party, and thus introducing her to a whole new spectrum of possibilities in the music realm. She would later discover her own music style. When she was 15 she moved to Nashville (where her parents had contacts in the gospel recording industry) from her birth place/home town, Santa Barbra, to work with songwriters.

Katy Perry’s debut album, which was self-titled with her birth name Katy Hudson, contained Christian songs released in 2001. The record company, Red Hill Records had signed her to their label to release this album.

Alanis Morissette’s fame from her extremely successful album, Jagged Little Pill, can be credited to Glen Ballard, and when Katy Perry was 17 they were introduced. Working with Ballard, Perry found comfort, thus Morissette became one of her noted influences, a necessary mentor. She went on to become part of the Matrix Team in 2004 as a vocalist, and was even proclaimed, “The Next Big Thing,” by Blender Magazine with some of the songs recorded with Ballard. Jason Flom, an executive,  from Capitol Music, agreed to sign Katy Perry in Spring 2007 because of her sessions with Ballard.

Being signed, she got the opportunity t be introduced to a number of significant musicians such as Greg Wells, Butch Walker, Dr. Luke, and Max Martain. On Perry’s myspace account, “Ur So Gay,” was an instant hit and was offered as a free download. Her claim to fame came with her hit single, “I Kissed a Girl.” The song was featured in an episode of the series “Gossip Girl.” This exposure prompted the song to climb up the Billboard Hot 100 chart to number 2. On June 17 , 2008, her full length debut album “One of the Boys,” which peaked at number 9 on Hot 200.

While recording a song in a New York Studio, Katy Perry met Travis McCoy, Gym Class Heros singer. They soon started dating and casually dated for several years. She was given a promise ring in 2008 but the couple only survived a few months more before they split up. In April 2009 they tried to ignite their love once again but split up again a few months later.

During summer later that year, Perry met Russel Brand, a British Comedian, at MTV Video Music Awards and started becoming romantic. On New Years Eve 2010, 3 months later, they were engaged to be married.

Perry hurried to debut her new album, “Teenage Dream,” onto of her new romance. The album was released August 24, 2010. Her two hit singles “Teenage Dream” and “California Gurls” were charted at The Top 5 of U.S. Singles Chart, in the same week. She is the 10th solo female artist in the Hot 100s 52-year history to concurrently place two titles in the top five list.
