Timbaland – If We Ever Meet Again ft. Katy Perry
“If We Ever Meet Again” is the fourth single from American rapper Timbaland’s third studio album Shock Value II. The song features pop singer Katy Perry and served as the album’s second worldwide single. Timbaland’s brother Sebastian is also featured at the end of the song, but is uncredited.
Timbaland told MTV that will.i.am’s work on “I Gotta Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas inspired him to make “If We Ever Meet Again”: “When I did this song, I was in love with this record called … you’re gonna be surprised. The record didn’t have anything to do with ['If We Ever Meet Again'], but when I heard [the Black Eyed Peas'] “I Gotta Feeling”, I said, ‘I want a record just like that on my album.’ I said, ‘I gotta do me a “I Gotta Feeling” record.’ Me and one of my producers, Jim Beanz, we came up with this concept. I said, ‘["I Gotta Feeling"] is happy, but I like it.’ It gives a good feeling”. On the record, Timbaland sings, instead of raps: “It’s not like it’s incredible singing, but it made sense for me and it fits my voice,” he explained. “To get somebody else to sing it, it might sound too overdone. I like it better with mistakes — I make mistakes. With me singing it, it gives it a different kind of swagger to it”. Katy Perry sang the second verse, while Timbaland sang the first verse. In the chorus, both of them sang together.

The music video was filmed in December 2009. It was directed by Paul “Coy” Allen, who directed “Morning After Dark” and “Say Something”. Timbaland told MTV that he wanted the video to be serious and maybe have Perry playing his guardian angel: “I wanna make something deep, I don’t know if I wanna make it like a relationship. I wanna make it like she saved my life with whatever depression I was going through, whether it be drug depression, weight-loss depression — something. … Will she be around if I go through this again?”. The video premiered on January 18, 2010 and from January 19 is showing on UK music channels, charting at number one on many of the music channel video charts. The video, rather than focusing on a serious relationship, as mentioned above, focuses on the love story between a jewel thief (Julian Graham) and an art thief (Nadine Heimann), interspersed with performance pieces from Perry and Timbaland. In the original video Katy Perry appears in black girdle and black leather as an underwear, while Timbaland in the whole part of the clip was in a brown Jacket and with a flat cap on his head. The video ends with a group of thieves stealing all the artworks and jewels that the jewel thief and the art thief have taken.

LYRICS
What is somebody like you doin’ in a place like this?
Say did you come alone or did you bring all your friends?
Say whats your name? What you drinking?
I think I know what are you thinking
Baby whats your sign,
tell me yours and ill tell you mine
Say What is someone like you doin’ in a place like this?
I’ll never be the same
If we ever meet again
Won’t let you get away
If we ever meet again
This freefall, oh, got me so, oh
kiss me all night,
don’t ever let me go
Ill never be the same
if we ever meet again
Do you come here much?
I swear I’ve seen your face before
You don’t see me blush
but I cant help to want you more, more
Baby tell me whats your story?
I ain’t shy, don’t you worry
I’m flirting with my eyes
I wanna leave with you tonight
do you come here much?
I’ve gotta see your face some more
(some more cause baby I..)
I’ll never be the same
If we ever meet again
Won’t let you get away
If we ever meet again
This free fall, oh got me so, oh
kiss me all night,
don’t ever let me go
Ill never be the same
if we ever meet again
If we ever meet again,
I’ll have so much more to say
(Say if we ever meet again)
If we ever meet again, again
I wont let you go away
(Say if we ever meet again)
If we ever, ever meet again
I’ll have so much more to say
(Say if we ever meet again)
If we ever, ever meet again
I wont let you go away!
I’ll never be the same
If we ever meet again
Won’t let you get away
If we ever meet again
This free fall, oh got me so oh
kiss me all night,
don’t ever let me go
Ill never be the same
if we ever meet again
I’ll never be the same
If we ever meet again
Won’t let you get away
If we ever meet again
This free fall, oh got me so, oh
kiss me all night,
don’t ever let me go
Ill never be the same
if we ever meet again

Katy Perry Songwriter:
Katy Perry rose to fame with her hit single “I Kissed a Girl,” in 2008, which went to the top of the international charts. She then continued on with, “Hot N Cold.” Both singles received multi-platinum recognition. “One of the Boys,” Perry’s first mainstream studio album was the 33rd best selling album worldwide of 2008 and was accredited platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. This is a long way from starting out with her first internet single “Ur So Gay,” in November of 2007, after signing with her 4th record label in seven years, Capitol Music Group. “Ur So Gay,” got some public attention but failed to reach the charts.
Perry kept her fame with her unique style and in her “California Gurls,” video by squirting whipped cream out of her bra. However, beyond the sex appeal and novelty, Katy Perry is a successful songwriter who’s credit is shared on some hits, such as “Teenage Dream” as well as, “Firework.” These songs as well as, “California Gurls,” “E.T.,” and “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F),” were Billboard chart toppers. Katy Perry also has a whole manifest of songs yet be released, which includes, Kelly Clarkson’s more refined version of “I Do Not Hook Up.”
Listen to compared versions below, as well as a few others:
“I Do Not Hook Up,”- Kelly Clarkson
“I Do Not Hook Up,” the song Kelly Clarkson made her own, is probably one of the best known Katy Perry written songs. Perry originally named the song “Hook Up.” Clarkson almost took this song all the way to the top of the charts, and probably would have, if she didn’t change the best part of the song:
“So if you want me, I don’t come cheap/ Keep your thing in your pants, your heart on your sleeve,” and changed it to the more G rated version,” Keep your hand in my hand, your heart on your sleeve.”

Katy’s Perry Version:
“The Girl Next Door,”- Jesse James
Originally a Katy Perry demo about how Perry rose to fame, “The Girl Next Door,” was sung by Jesse James. Who you may ask? Well that’s why Jesse James singing this makes no sense because the song does not make sense with her singing it. When this song got out, Katy Perry had just released her song, “Waking Up in Vegas,” so if Perry had been singing this song, it probably would have not only made sense but might have even made it.

Katy Perry Version:
“Rock God”-Selena Gomez & The Scene:
Religious metaphors fill this song, with out a doubt because of Katy Perry growing up in a devout Christian home, which is why it makes no sense that Selena Gomez is singing this song. Gomez does not have the religious upbringing to back up what the whole song is about. Lyrics like : ” Father, I’m torn and I’m selling my soul/ To the rhythm, the beat, and the bass,” make the song washout when she sings it.
Selena Gomez Version:
Katy Perry Version:
Kelly Clarkson – “Long Shot”:
Kelly Clarkson’s version is favored over the original Katy Perry demo version because it doesn’t have awkward guitar picks and riffs from a guitar that isn’t plugged in. The Kelly version musically just sounds better. Hats off to you Kelly, because out of any Perry’s songs sang by another artist this one is much different but for the good.

Katy Perry Version:
“Bullet,”- Jessie James:
Even though this song has not been released, it has been confirmed to be co-written by Katy Perry by ASCAP. We can probably make a couple observations that we can bet on, based on what we’ve heard before. One, that the original has no country flair and two the original has a rougher edge than James’s version ( Katy’s earlier songs have a rougher sound that her newer hits). We can also probably guess that James’s kept the original racy lyrics,”Is that a gun in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?”
Jesse James Version:
